Vehicle Technician (Preferably VAG Experience) – MOT Tester

Location: Stafford, Staffordshire

Salary: £18,000 - £20,000 Basic (Dep on Exp), Plus Bonus and Overtime

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm or 10:00am - 6:30pm (On a Rota Basis) and Saturdays 8:00am - 1:00pm

Our client who are in the ‘Top 50 UK Companies to work for’ are currently recruiting for a Technician (Preferably VAG Experience)/ MOT Tester based in the Stafford area.

Job Specification:

  • To road test vehicles and diagnose problems as and when required

  • To carry out routine servicing, warranty repairs, diagnosis of vehicle problems and general maintenance of vehicles as required

  • To maintain and develop skill levels in all aspects of repair, service and maintenance of Franchise vehicles

  • To take an active part in upholding the companies Health and Safety policy

  • To be conversant with all Manufacturer technical literature and information bulletins

  • To keep work area and protective clothing clean, tidy and in a safe condition in order to uphold the Manufacturers and Company image

  • To ensure vehicles comply with safety standards when returned to customer or that faults have been reported and noted on job card

  • To talk directly to customers when required

  • To undertake Manufacturers Training Courses as advised by the Aftersales Manager

  • To notify the Aftersales Manager of damage or breakdown of workshop equipment or tooling

  • To complete MOT testing as required

Person Specification

  • Must have proven track record of working at Technician Level within the motor trade

  • Completed Service Technician qualification essential

  • To have served a recognised apprenticeship and attained a recognised qualification. To have experience in the servicing and repair of motor vehicles

  • Previous experience of completing MOT testing is essential

  • Previous experience of diagnostics highly advantageous

  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements of Vehicle Service Technician position

  • Willingness to undertake any training commensurate with the position

  • Full Clean Driving Licence (for insurance purposes)

  • Previous experience of working within the VAG brand highly advantageous (although not essential)

Job Summary/Purpose

The purpose of this role is to ensure that customers receive an excellent level of service whilst at the same time ensuring the highest level of sales for the company.

Key Activities/Duties

  • To receive inbound service booking calls from retail customers
  • To allocate service and MOT work to individual Technicians - booking to a maximum efficiency
  • Ensure all Duty of Care products are sold and promoted within the relevant service schedules
  • Upsell ancillary products to customers where it is beneficial to do so
  • To ensure that all bookings are accurately completed and all the relevant data is included each and every time

Person Specification

Experienced in sales is essential. Highly focused, very confident, with a comprehensive knowledge of how to maintain a professional, helpful and courteous relationship with allocated customers. Having an enthusiastic and positive attitude. You must have experience working as a Service Advisor within a Main Car Dealership and hold a full UK/EU drivers license. You must also have previous knowledge of working with Kerridge.

  • Time served engineer ideally within food manufacturing environment.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in an operating engineering environment.
  • A-level or equivalent in electrical/mechanical engineering / appropriate levels of industrial experience.
  • Experience of a multi-skilled engineering environment preferably within Dairy/Beverage industries.
  • Thorough knowledge of process instrumentation and control systems.
  • Knowledge and hand on experience of PLC controlled industrial ovens and PLC controlled packaging machines
  • You must be able to demonstrate your knowledge of Invertors
  • Experience in fabrication and maintenance with both steam and compressed air systems.
  • Fabrication and welding experience to a high standard, including hygienic pipe fitting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fault find within PLC control systems.
  • Competent with single/three phase and low voltage control applications and installations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and familiar with MS Office products.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to work individually as well as within a Team across all functions on site, demonstrating a "can do" and “flexible” attitude and approach towards the business requirements.
  • You must have an eye for “Continuous Improvement” and have past experience and be able to demonstrate plant improvement and production efficiencies.

Required Experience:

  • Food / Beverage / Packaging / Pharmaceutical Production Experience minimum 2 years;
  • Ready Meals / Food Manufacturing; this would be advantageous.: 5 years
  • Electrical Engineering qualifications, minimum City & Guilds / NVQ Levels 1,2 & 3
