Role: Teaching Assistant
Location: Sudbury – CO10
Salary: £14,474 gross per annum/£8.38 per hour
Hours: Monday to Friday term time – 39 hours a week – plus additional days in the holiday periods making a total of 40 weeks per annum.
Our client, a College based in Sudbury are currently looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant to join their existing team. The main purpose of the role is to work under direct instruction of the Teacher/Instructor, and support the Teacher/Instructor in ensuring a positive and productive learning environment. You will work as a member of a team providing a broad and balanced programme of study through our clients 24 hour curriculum and manage delegated areas of curricular delivery, assessment and reporting under the supervision of members of the teaching team. You will be required to lead development and delivery of modules of study in key skills and vocational areas, making these areas of learning accessible to all pupils and amenable to external accreditation. Manage small groups of children, ensuring their safety and welfare in a range of learning environments both on and off the premises.
The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of a classroom environment and previous experience of working with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs is desirable.
Duties and Responsibilities
Help to ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment for children and young people.
Understand and be committed to school philosophy, policy and practice.
Support young people to engage in lessons and to behave in an appropriate manner.
Be a good role model for our young people.
Liaise with other staff; social workers and other professionals, parents of children; outside agencies and members of public.
Take responsibility for the management and care of educational resources and equipment and appropriate use of school resources.
Supervise voluntary helpers and students on placement.
Promote and maintain good relationships with local community.
Write daily records and make a substantial contribution to review reports.
Attend and contribute to meetings (including staff and review meetings).
Administer medication in accordance with College guidelines.
Transportation of children, as driver or as escort.
Support the management and implementation of change
Take delegated responsibility for financial transactions.
To work as a member of a team providing a broad and balanced programme of study through their 24 hour curriculum.
To manage delegated areas of curricular delivery, assessment and reporting under the supervision of members of the teaching team.
To lead development and delivery of modules of study in key skills and vocational areas, making these areas of learning accessible to all pupils and amenable to external accreditation.
To contribute to specific aspects of the staff training and development programme.
To take responsibility for the management of small groups of children, ensuring their safety and welfare in a range of learning environments both on and off the premises.
To take responsibility for the presentation and display of children’s work and other materials.
Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the Teacher/HLTA.
Establish constructive relationships with the pupils and interact with them according to individual needs.
Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
Promote self-esteem and independence.
Provide detailed and regular reports to the Teacher on individual pupils.
Establish constructive relationships with Parents and Carers
Encourage pupils to take responsibility for their behaviour
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality, data protection.
Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson time including lunch breaks
Hold a full manual driving licence
Good numeracy and literacy skills
Basic Classroom training preferred e.g. NVQ 2 Teaching Assistant
The successful applicant will be required to complete and obtain a DBS check from the Vetting and Barring Bureau which The College will pay towards the cost.
Membership of the auto enrolment pension scheme on successfully meeting the qualifying criteria
Understanding of a classroom environment
Previous experience working within a classroom essential
Previous experience working within a residential school desirable
Previous experience working with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs is desirable.
Knowledge and Understanding:
Ability to relate well towards adults and children.
Ability to show initiative, flexibility and resilience in an environment that is sometimes challenging.
Work constructively as part as a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities.
To be aware of College policies and procedures.
